Derek brings over 13 years of professional fundraising experience, partnering with nonprofit organizations. He specializes in crafting tailored development strategies and solutions, guiding his clients to effectively execute them.

Derek's strategic approach consistently enhances his clients' ability to foster meaningful, long-term relationships with donors, ultimately driving greater impact for their missions.

Meet Derek

Prior to founding Derek John Rogers Consulting, LLC in 2020, Derek was a Director at Orr Group, a premiere firm serving nonprofit clients. He served as a client lead and managed projects for DC Central Kitchen, Obama Foundation, and Washington Nationals Philanthropies. Derek started at Orr Group in 2011 when he was first hired as an intern.

Derek is a former Committee Member and Co-Chair of SMYAL's Young Donors Committee. Previously, he served on the Board of Directors of the Young Nonprofit Professionals Network DC. He graduated from The George Washington University with a Bachelor of Business Administration.

Derek lives in Washington, DC’s Logan Circle neighborhood and enjoys running along the National Mall, listening to true crime podcasts, and traveling to a new US state each year.
